Not sure if I have the need to return now that I satisfied my need for the cheese. !Since we had to wait for a table and since me and hubby looked like beach bums and I felt a little out of place, I suggested we eat at the bar. We suggest collared shirts and closed toed shoes for gentlemen. They know what they are doing. But you should try that mac and cheese and have yourself a nice spicy bloody mary. I will say the restaurant carries a nice ambiance, but since food should be the flock factor, I can't recommend it. J. Alexander's relies a bit too heavily on salt and liquid smoke to flavor their dishes, over-seasoning just about everything. Didn't realize it's a hangout for 'the suits'. The bill was HIGH, but we were happy and the drive home was magical we were so happy.So, we gave them another try when we were in Tampa the end of August for daughter's b-day.AMAZING good food. I didn't expect it to have marania sauce on it.

Get the mac and cheese! This restaurant is DEFINITELY one that set's a high standard for top notch and consistently delicious food, prepared to your own particular taste if requested, and certainly the staff and employees are always friendly, couteous, and knowledgeable about their specials and entire menu, which allows them to make great suggestions for your culinary delight! This will appeal to those who are used to a steady diet of Chili's and other similar "chain" fare, but don't expect a fine dining experience if you are used to more thoughtful and creative cuisine. Appeared to be a hangout for the business men. The bartenders pretty much ignored us. Contrary to those "few" who claim the food fare is either over spiced or improperly prepared, our large and ever increasing family has been dining at J. Alexanders for more than six years, and have always been rewarded with great food, superb service, and in the RARE event is something is not to our liking, the staff and employee's have always "made it right" and to our complete and total satisfaction, cheerfully, without any reservations whatsoever. Salads are great.

Daughter was encouraged to get herself a good ole steak to celebrate her b-day (btw - I told the girl at the hostess stand it was her b-day and asked them to bring a slice of a chocolate cake straight away, which they did with a candle on it).She LOVED her steak and potatoes AND the cake (with hot fudge, ice-cream, and whip cream).Service was perfect too! The dress code at J. Alexander's is Casual Dress. I got attitude about wanting a different side. Own or manage this property? It is a bit expensive but well worth it. No eye catching today.

We tipped well, of course.So we had a great time. !I ordered a cup of coffee and the fish special that came with a side I didn't like. Rattlesnake pasta is generous and tasty.
