As stronger restrictions have become imposed, the Catholic Community Foundation, along with the members of the Bishop’s Fishing Tournament committee, has reached the decision to pivot this year’s tournament to a virtual event.

The mission to proclaim the Gospel, which comes from a life-giving encounter with Christ and His Church, is provided by countless men and women who have dedicated their lives to sharing Christ with others. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB’s) mission is to encounter the mercy of Christ and to accompany His people with joy.

Requests shall be limited to those that will better serve the spiritual, educational, health and social needs of the people served by the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls where other financial resources are not available.

The Catholic Foundation distributes grants both to qualified individuals as scholarships or to Catholic parishes, schools, Catholic entities and other charitable organizations that do not conflict with Catholic teachings. As part of such efforts, low-income people gain the ability to identify barriers, brainstorm solutions, and take action to change problematic structures and systems in their communities. For requests over $10,000 the full Board of Directors will approve/deny requests at their semi-annual meetings. These grants are intended for organizations working to promote justice or economic development oignificantly larger scale than the community-based organizations that typically receive support from CCHD. CCHD supports economic development initiatives that significantly include the voice of the poor and marginalized in developing new businesses that offer good jobs and/or develop assets that will be owned and enjoyed by local communities. The Catholic Community Foundation has a modest amount of grant money available for distribution from its unrestricted endowments. CCHD is currently not accepting letters of inquiry or applications for its Strategic National Grant Program. More than 800 parishes and schools have received grants from the Catholic United Financial Foundation, totaling over $430,000 in support. All distribution checks are mailed by June 30.
